It is also known as “Pastoretes”. This word may come from their habit of following all the insects that the animals lift from the ground when grazing.

It is even easier to see them on these animals “cleaning” them. Other sources indicate that the name Pastoreta (or lavender in Spanish) responds to the long tail that seems like the long skirt once typically worn by women from this part of the countryside.
