It is a bird that in recent years has suffered a fairly significant demographic explosion in the plain of Lleida. Human intervention has played a key role in the proliferation of this species, as it can be frequently seen in the landfills looking for food, where they find remains among the debris that citizens separate when recycling.

At the same time, the introduction of invasive species such as the American crab (present in ponds) has made easier for this species of bird to find food.
